He sat his A level biology papers last week. Said the questions looked different to any past paper but he knew how to approach them all. That is what a year with his Daresne tutor did - drilled the underlying principles not just the past paper answers, so unfamiliar questions do not throw him. He texted me walking out: think that went well. That is the best text.

Three weeks of exams and it is finally over. We have been with Daresne through all of sixth year for maths and chemistry. She came out of both exams saying they felt manageable. For maths specifically her tutor had been doing paper 2 past questions exclusively in the final few weeks. We also had to reschedule two or three sessions during the year and it was always sorted quickly through the Daresne Chat. We find out in August.
My son has been losing marks on the six mark biology questions all year. His tutor put together a specific framework for answering them and they practiced nothing but those question types in the final three sessions. He came out of the exam saying the six markers were the part he felt best about. I had told him that would not happen. I was wrong and I am very glad about it.
My son seems much more settled about his maths now. Early days but the tutor is clearly good at what he does. Would reccomend.
Timing has always been the problem with my daughter in chemistry. She would run out of time and leave questions blank. Her Daresne tutor worked on pacing specifically in the last month, timing every section and teaching her where to move on rather than get stuck. She finished with ten minutes to spare and went back to check her answers. She has never done that before.
My son sat his Leaving Cert geography paper this week. He came home and said it was the best he had felt coming out of any exam he had ever done. His tutor had focused heavily on the long questions in the final month and taught him exactly how to structure each type of answer. He said he had a clear plan for every question before he started writing. Cannot ask for more than that going in.
