My son used to dread maths and would kick off about homework. After about 8 sessions with Daresne something changed. He now does extra practice without being asked which I honestly never expected. Tutor explains things at his pace and doesnt make him feel bad for not getting it first time. Made a huge difference to his confidence.
We do 16 sessions a month split between the two languages. I was sceptical about whether that was too much but it has genuinely worked. French up two grades. Spanish up two grades. My daughter said having two different tutors actually helped because the styles are different and she had to adapt. That felt like an unexpected bonus.
My son was fine on the non-calculator paper but fell apart on the calculator. I asked whether we could focus purely on that. His tutor said yes and stuck to it. Felt like a risk being that narrow but his mock result on the calculator paper went from a 3 to a 7. Overall predicted grade now a 6 up from a 4.
Started 11+ prep with Daresne about 7 months before the test. Daughter is on the shy side and I worried she wouldnt open up over video but she got on brilliantly from the start. Verbal reasoning was the weak spot and by the end she was flying through practice papers. She got into her first choice school. We are absolutely thrilled.
She just kept rereading the same pages and testing herself with the same questions. Her tutor taught her how to actually revise which sounds simple but her school had never really addressed it. Predicted grade went from a 4 to an 8 over about ten months. She now uses the same approach for all her subjects. Changed how she learns.
My son sat down for the first session with his arms crossed and I thought this is going nowhere. Twelve months later on 8 sessions a month he is predicted a 6 having started at a 3. He is actually nervous about results day in the good way. He wants to do well. That has never happened before with French. Whatever Amelie does it works.
Her school suggested she move to foundation tier maths. We did not accept that. We signed up for 16 sessions a month for the final year and her tutor Hannah worked on higher tier content only, never retreated to foundation. She got a 7. She is going to her sixth form of choice. That is all I wanted and it happened.
Will keep this short. Son got a U in his AS chem mock in October. Desperate. Started Daresne in November, two sessions a week. By Feb his teacher was predicting a B. I dont know what the tutor did differently to school but it worked. Online lessons which I was sceptical about but no issues at all.
