My daughter speaks Arabic at home but finding a tutor who knows the GCSE specification rather than just the spoken language was the challenge. Daresne found the right person immediately. My son was getting Ds in Higher chemistry and his teacher had suggested considering dropping to National 5. We did not want to do that and tried Daresne instead. Brilliant. My son went from failing Leaving Cert geography to predicted H3. The tutor is excellent and knows the Irish curriculum inside out.
My son has always struggled with English and had more or less given up on getting a decent grade. After his third session he told me that his Daresne tutor was the first person who had made him feel like he actually could do it. His predicted grade has gone from a 3 to a 6. The confidence was the thing that unlocked everything else.

My daughter was fine on studied texts but lost marks every time on the unseen poetry section of Leaving Cert English. Her tutor focused on this specifically - how to read a poem you have never seen and write analytically about it in a time limit. After six sessions her marks on that section went from H5 to H2. Very targeted work.
