Good reliable tuition. My son gets on well with his tutor and Junior Cert maths has improved steadily. Nothing flashy but it works. Four stars because progress has been a bit slower than I expected but we are getting there.
My son has dyslexia and has always struggled with English. His Daresne tutor adapted her approach really quickly - less reading from the page, more discussion and audio-first methods. His GCSE English marks have improved by two grades. More importantly he does not dread it anymore.
A level religious studies is not commonly tutored but Daresne found someone excellent. Tutor has a theology degree and is brilliant at helping daughter engage with philosophical arguments properly. Marks went from Ds to As. Predicted a high grade for the final exams.
Brilliant from day one.
My son speaks French with me at home but was getting a 5 in GCSE French. His tutor identified immediately that his register was too informal and his written French had anglicisms. Three months of specific work on this and he is predicted a 9. The tutor knew exactly what the examiner wants.
My son speaks French at home with me but was only getting a 5 in GCSE French. His tutor worked out immediately that his spoken register was too informal for the exam and his written French had errors he had picked up from home. Within a few months his predicted grade went from a 5 to an 8. The tutor knew exactly what the examiner wants.
Turned things around completely. My son was on course to fail Leaving Cert physics and is now predicted to pass with a decent grade. His tutor has been really patient with him.
Son was struggling across all three sciences. We focused on biology first with Daresne and within a few months his confidence had grown enough that he started approaching chemistry and physics differently too. He got a 6 in his biology mock which he was really proud of. Tutor made it feel manageable when it had felt overwhelming.
